As far as I can tell the current bulldoze mode for when you're using gamelink automatically puts in walls. This can make it easy to accidentally think there isn't a passage somewhere if you don't manually open up that wall when you're exploring. I first got interested in mapping first person RPGs when I picked up Etrian Odyssey on the DS (which uses making your own map as a selling point) and the way that game handled it was it would track your position and automatically lay down floor where you stepped, but it was up to you to manage walls. As long as I didn't rush while drawing in distant walls I never missed a passage. It'd be nice to be able to choose which kind of behavior for the bulldoze "automap" feature is used.
